In this spotlight, Tharin Smith discusses his return to Origins as a part of the team at Gate Lodge in Vero Beach, Florida. With over a decade of sobriety, Tharin states that he is passionate about living his life with purpose, excitement, and enthusiasm. He is eager to help the clients at Gate Lodge as they enter into a new life of awareness that is beyond imagination.
What brings you back to the Origins family?
The longing for family goes a long way, and my family is here at Origins. Origins is my home, and being a part of the Origins family is a part of God’s plan for me. I couldn’t be any happier to rejoin the team while fulfilling my purpose in life.
What do you love most about teaching the spiritual principles of the 12-Steps to clients at Origins?
Everyone who comes to treatment deserves recovery whether they know it or not. As staff members, it is our responsibility to give them the reasons they are worthy of help in a loving and compassionate way. Although many come to us with varying circumstances, we can be there to deliver a common solution to a common problem in a unified manner. I am enthusiastic about being able to transmit this message of hope to our clients!
Are you in recovery yourself? If so, what do you love most about being in recovery?
Yes. I’ve been fully invested in recovery since November 26, 2005. I truly love having a purpose in life and that is to be of service to others. Being part of a fellowship of other individuals whose main purpose is that as well is the highlight of my life.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Do you have any pets or engage in special hobbies?
I love being on the beach, traveling, enjoying and photographing sunrises and sunsets as well as being part of my nieces’ and nephews’ lives – things that I was unable to do before sobriety. I also enjoy taking individuals through the 12-Steps. Vero Beach provides a perfect setting me, and I am excited to begin engaging the recovery community there as I start my new position at Gate Lodge.
Is there anything else you might like to share?
I love doing what I do and I am glad to be coming “home” to Origins! I am a blessed and grateful alcoholic. My life has exploded in a truly miraculous way, and I want nothing less for all who seek the same path.
