What brought you to the field of addiction treatment?

Over a decade ago, I experienced the effects of addiction when I was involved in helping someone seek treatment through an intervention. During that time, I witnessed the chaos and life-altering consequences experienced by them and their entire network of friends and family.

What struck me most was that the same downward spiral that affected the patient also impacted the family. This realization touched my heart and awakened a new, life-changing calling inside of me. I couldn’t ignore the reality that many families struggle within a state of sheer desperation. Tragically, several of my friends have lost children to this dreaded disease.

Previously, I had volunteered my time, experience, and efforts to causes I was passionate about, but after my friends’ losses, I felt I needed to do more. I met members of Hanley Center and witnessed the devotion and commitment to the work done there. I then offered to share my marketing and special events experience to support their fundraising efforts.

What brought you to Origins?

I knew several people with lives significantly impacted by the work of Hanley Center staff. I not only volunteered and became involved with several event committees, but eventually, I accepted the position of Director of Marketing and Special Events. During this period, Hanley Center became a part of Origins Behavioral HealthCare, which opened many doors. It provided a greater opportunity to impact others, not only in a Florida-based recovery program but also throughout Texas.

If there was only one thing you could tell us about working within your specialty area, what would it be?

I am blessed to work in a field where we can directly impact patients and their loved ones’ fears and concerns. We help guide them to the solution that will ultimately heal families and save lives.

What have you learned through your experience working in treatment?

As long as there is life, there is always hope!

Do you hold any credentials or certifications?

I completed my 1 ½ year of classroom hours toward Addiction Professional Training. I hope to become a Certified Addiction Professional (CAP). I am also very interested in learning more about Recovery Coaching and Intervention training to further assist in my ability to grow, learn, and help guide families and patients.

Do you participate in any professional activities outside of work?

I’m a member of the Delray Beach Drug Task Force. I also support as many substance use disorder-related events and causes as I possibly can.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Living in beautiful South Florida, it’s special whenever I’m able to be near the beach. That is my healing place and my time for mindfulness and meditation.

Do you spend time with family?

My family is my life! My wonderful husband, David, our daughter and son-in-law, and our two beautiful granddaughters are my heart.

Do you have any pets or engage in special hobbies?

I have worked with animal rescue and helped to coordinate events rescuing animals trapped by major hurricanes. I love horses, and I used to enjoy weekend trail rides, which I hope to resume.
