Staff Spotlight: Chelsey Sparks, LVN Nurse at Origins South…

What brought you to Origins?
The opportunity to help people who are willing to change their lives. What we do here is unique, we are not like other places. We give people a chance to have a life again. Origins looks at every aspect and as a team, utilizes approaches from every angle to help an individual. An example is even having social outings on weekends to teach how to be social and have sober fun. How to have a life again.

If there was only one thing you could tell us about working within your specialty area, what would it be?
Nurses do not only push medicine. We help get you to a point where you can understand and find a solution. We assess physical, mental and spiritual needs and listen when you need us to, we push you when you need it also.
What have you learned through your experience working in treatment?
Mostly, you just have to keep trying. So many people come in and everyone has given up on them, including themselves. And at this time, it’s important to encourage and help push and help build them up and not give up until they can learn to care for themselves again, until they find themselves and start to care. And it’s important to have someone rooting for them, someone in their corner who didn’t give up on them.
Do you hold any credentials or certifications?
Yes, I am a Licensed Vocational Nurse. I am continuing my education and in the future will pursue becoming a Registered Nurse.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I enjoy family time and it does take up all my time when not working. Life is what happens when you are making plans – We are expecting another baby boy in March which will be 4 kids for us. Between toddler life, teenagers, sports, drivers\ licenses etc. we stay pretty busy! We also love fishing and in good weather love to go offshore fishing, cooking that fish, beach days, swimming, zoo days, and spend as much time outside as we can. We do try and take advantage of living close to the beach.
