Tammy Martinez, MS – PsychoNeuroPlasticity (PNP) Specialist

IMG_7039Tammy Martinez was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she has lived her entire life. She has always had a passion to serve others and regularly volunteers with local community groups, participating in food drives and counseling activities. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Florida and her master’s degree in mental health counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University. Prior to coming to the Hanley Center, Tammy worked at a local church providing services to children, adolescents and families.

What brought you to Origins?

I came to work at Hanley for the opportunity to learn more about addiction and to grow as a professional. The team of people I work with daily provides a wealth of experience and wisdom. Also, I love to be a part of each client’s transformational journey of recovery.

What have you learned through your experience working in treatment?

More times than I can count I have seen that people can overcome insurmountable odds when they experience loving support and compassion. I have learned to be a part of this process, to be patient, and to be reassuring and affirming as the client works through his or her challenges.

If there were only one thing you could tell us about working in the area of treatment, what would it be?

I would have to say I have one of the best jobs on campus. Working with PNP allows me to empower clients with the knowledge, insight, and practical experience to overcome the stress, anxiety, depression, and lack of self-worth that so often accompanies addiction. It is an amazing thing to see every day, and I love what I do.

Do you hold any credentials or certifications, or do you participate in any other professional activities outside of work?

I have a master’s degree in mental health counseling.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Do you have any pets or engage in special hobbies?

I love to do things around my house when I’m not at work. I sew, garden, cook, do crafty things, and help my husband with a lot of do-it-yourself projects. I find so much enjoyment in the creative process. I always have my dogs, Ripp and Brandy, poking their noses in each project I undertake. Life is a perfect disaster with them around.
