Terry Shapiro has a long, successful leadership history with company

DALLAS, TEXAS (May 21, 2020)Jim Caldwell, Origins Behavioral HealthCare’s President and CEO, has promoted Terry Shapiro to Vice President and Executive Director of the company’s Florida programs. These programs include Hanley Center, a preeminent provider of addiction treatment for over 30 years.

Shapiro joined Origins in 2015, serving first as a Professional Relations Officer before being promoted in 2018 to Regional Vice President of Professional Relations. Shapiro is a Certified Addictions Counselor who also holds a master’s degree in human services counseling with an emphasis on addictions.

Caldwell recognizes Shapiro as a proven leader with a passion for helping families recover. He will serve as a worthy successor to the leadership role previously held by Origins’ current Vice President of Operations, Brad Sylvain, who will now turn his attention to establishing new counseling centers around the country and developing strategic revenue opportunities.

“Terry is a well-respected professional with decades of behavioral health experience who intimately understands Origins’ mission and treatment model. His expertise and leadership will ensure a seamless transition as we build upon our clinical model with an eye toward the future,” said Caldwell who indicated his excitement to have Brad working side by side with him to advance the company’s rapidly expanding business lines.

Shapiro states he is proud to continue the amazing work spearheaded by Sylvain. “Hanley Center has a longstanding legacy started by the Hanley family, in the field of addiction treatment, and I am honored by the opportunity to oversee our Florida programs. I look forward to serving our team and continuing to share Origins’ exceptional care with patients, their families, our alumni, and our professional referents,” he said.

Shapiro received his bachelor’s degree in social work from Winona State University in Minnesota in 1985 and his master’s from National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois in 1987. Fluent in Spanish, he has presented at national and regional conferences, conducted interventions, and provided several print and broadcast interviews on addiction treatment. Prior to joining Origins, he served as an executive director at Hazelden Chicago and the Council for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services in Tennessee. He also served as an employee assistance counselor for Amtrak Railroad. He developed and implemented prevention programs in schools and provided counseling to youth and families in Bogota, Colombia. While there, he operated a baseball academy and was also a scout for the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs.

“I’ve always loved Origins’ philosophy and direction. We put the patients at the center of our care, and our team builds lasting relationships to help people and families find recovery. I’m grateful for the opportunity to take on this newest leadership role,” said Shapiro.
