When I arrived at the Hanley Center in May of 2016, I was beaten down and shattered. I had lost virtually everything in my life and I was full of despair. Alcohol truly had become my master. Shortly after I arrived, I vividly remember a Hanley employee asking me what I wanted to get out of their program. My immediate and short response was “hope.” I wanted hope that living a happy, joyous, productive life without alcohol was possible. I spent 75 days at the Hanley Center during the summer of 2016 and I received much more than hope. It is not an understatement to say that the Hanley Center literally saved my life.
Through their intensive Big Book studies and meetings, process groups, recreational education (thank you for pushing me Cynthia!), informative lectures, and their helpful, knowledgeable, and caring staff I was introduced to a design for living that is still working for me 17 months later. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined being alcohol free for 17 months, let alone being alcohol free and loving life! The promises that the Big Book speaks of have, and are continuing to, come true.
Thank you Hanley Center for showing me that not only does life not end without alcohol but also for showing me that a life without alcohol is when life truly begins!
