In this Staff Spotlight, meet Cynthia Timmons, Wellness Coordinator and Recreational Therapist at Hanley Center at Origins in West Palm Beach, FL. Cynthia came to the Hanley Center in 2003 and is a dedicated and passionate member of Team Origins.
As a recreational therapist, Cynthia uses a wide range of activity-based interventions and techniques to improve the physical, mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual wellness of her patients. Her work is key in assisting individuals as they develop life-skills, knowledge, and behaviors that support healthy lives in recovery.
Cynthia’s energy is infectious, and she is known for motivating patients to engage in treatment on a community level.
I’m very blessed to love what I do. One of my favorite groups is experiential therapy. These groups are designed to promote teamwork, trust, cooperation, communication skills, and personal growth. They challenge clients outside their comfort zone with support from their peers while working to identify and change behaviors. It is so exciting to be a part of facilitating change in people’s lives.
When our patients get to connect with others in recovery and have a spiritual connection, a great life is possible. Sober Fun Happens.
I graduated from Appalachian State University and I’ve worked for 34 years as a Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist. I’m also a Certified Addiction Professional. I’m currently studying to become Health Coach.
Life outside of work includes traveling, adventure, bike riding, going to the beach, time with friends and family, taking dance lessons, and engage in church activities.
