Hanley Center has a very good reputation both locally and nationally. I have always liked their multidisciplinary model for treating addiction and co-occurring disorders. Working in the field, I know it is the most effective approach for treatment. Hanley Center stands out exceptionally with regard to their standard of care and treatment approach. If there is only one thing you could tell us about working within your specialty area, what would it be?
Working as a psychiatrist in the field of addiction medicine for close to 25 years, I can say that addiction treatment works! It can significantly improve the quality of life of people with severe addiction and help them stay in recovery. Even though addiction is a chronic and disabling disease, proper treatment can offer a very good prognosis long term.
What have you learned through your experience working in treatment?
Treatment of addiction and co-occurring disorders can be very challenging. It’s not only clinical expertise that matters for good treatment outcomes. You also need a positive attitude, patience, and a thick skin to bring about positive treatment outcomes.
Do you have any credentials or certifications? Do you participate in any professional activities outside of work?
I have the following board certifications:
- Board Certified General Psychiatry
- Board Certified in Addiction Medicine
- Board Certified Addiction Psychiatry
- Board Certified Forensic Psychiatry
- Board Certified Psychosomatic Medicine
I have participated with the local media to increase the awareness of the widespread opioid crisis. I am also involved in providing continuing education to my professional colleagues with topics related to addiction. Also, I am similarly involved in providing education to family members of the patients regarding substance abuse and treatment.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family. I also enjoy reading, traveling, playing volleyball and cricket. I do not have any pets of my own, but I love animals and often take care of my friends’ pets when they go on vacation. I have a lot of interest in listening to music as well as singing.
