Learning the purpose of prayer is important in recovery. Praying is not about changing our Higher Power’s mind but rather asking for help in changing our minds. We’re shown in Step Eleven not to pray for our own selfish needs, but only to pray “for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.” Our Higher Power is always aware of our needs before we ask for it. Prayer is a part of the partnership we entered in Step Three.
Today, I am open to praying for my Higher Power’s direction in my life. I’m open to listening and receiving strength to use this will properly. I will have faith that God will give me the power to carry that out.
