“Though they knew they must help other alcoholics if they would remain sober, that motive became secondary. It was transcended by the happiness they found in giving themselves for others.” (Big Book, Page 159) Sometimes we get so caught up in self we forget the joy found in helping others. Perhaps we don’t want to take the time to meet with a sponsee. We may have to remind ourselves of the joy we will feel after helping someone else, even if it is inconvenient. More often, we will not regret taking the time to help someone else but rather the times we didn’t.
Today, I ask God for to put someone in my path that I can help. I will remember that it is a blessing to do so and not a chore.
