Even in recovery, we can discover that we “are the problem.” We may find ourselves playing the “spiritual stage character” in our relationships with others. This spiritual stage character is equally as controlling and manipulative, and we can find ourselves living like the “actor” on Page 61 of the Big Book. Perhaps we still believe that we are a victim and life doesn’t treat us right. Perhaps we believe that other people were more to blame, operating under the delusion that we can wrest satisfaction and happiness out of this world if we only manage well. The 12-Steps give us an opportunity to have an experience with humility. Through humility, we will begin to experience God-consciousness.
Today, I will ask for help to experience God-consciousness through humility. I will be vulnerable and willing to expose my shortcomings.
