Sometimes when we try to help a newcomer, we end up causing more harm than good. We have to remember that when helping another alcoholic, we cannot enable them. It is not our job to give them money or be their nurse. We should help where we can without deprive ourselves of the things we need in recovery. Our intentions should always be to aid in their recovery — not their destructiveness.
May I ask God in prayer and meditation how to help the still-sick alcoholic. May I do my best to help them and not hurt them by helping them too much. When unsure, I will also remember to ask to be always helpful instead of merely useful.
