We learned in the program that identifying was trying to see how we were like the people with whom we associated. Comparing was looking for differences, usually seeing we were better than others. When we look for the ways we can relate to another addict or alcoholic we can always find similarities. Whether it is certain facts about our lives or the emotions we felt. When we do this we find a feeling of belonging we have never known before.
Today I will remember I am just like any other addict or alcoholic sitting with me in a meeting. I am no better or worse. I will remember I’m just another alcoholic who will follow the path of the 12-Steps, then use my feelings and experiences to help the next person find recovery.
