During our addiction, we were in survival mode and constantly trying to manage day by day even hour by hour. We were driven by our disease and the shells of our former selves. Ravaged by our affliction we lost sight of the beauty in life. Constantly in fight-or-flight mode, we operated from a place of fear. As we entered our recovery, we realized the thing we had been trying to avoid was living within us, and the only way to overcome it was with help from our Higher Power. We realized that without help it is too much for us. The program gave us a path to salvation. We no longer needed to survive. Instead, we could thrive in recovery.
I will do more than survive. I will thrive in my recovery by the grace of God.
