We are able to live with others today through mistakes we’ve made in the past. We can understand the failings of others through the failings of our own experience. Our faults are a bridge to understanding other people. By contrast, when we were using, we thought we were faultless and always right. This led to judgments, arguments, and self-imposed isolation. Alcohol fed our egotism and self-importance; sobriety helps develop humility and understanding.
God, help me to practice listening without judgment and interruption so that I fully benefit and truly comprehend the nature of what is being shared with me.
