Alcoholics tend to exhibit childishness in many forms. We like to dig our heels in, sulk in self-pity, and run away from uncomfortable situations. In sobriety, it is time to look reality square in the eye and enjoy life as it is. Reality is not something to suffer through but rather something to welcome. Reality is humbling. Reality reminds us that we are all equals, creations of a loving Creator. We are above no one and beneath no one. Reality tells us that pain is something we all must experience and suffering is optional. We all must experience it, but none of us have to live in it.
Today, I will remember that I’m a small part of a huge miracle. I will accept reality and know when I’m right where I’m supposed to be. My Higher Power loves me and will guide me to what I’m supposed to be.
