My time at Hannah’s House was the best time of my life. It may sound shocking that the best time of my life up to that point was being in treatment, but I will explain why. When I got to treatment I was nineteen, and ready to die. I had no motivation to do anything. I was given the opportunity to go to treatment on South Padre Island. I was ready for help.
The second I walked into Origins, I felt hope. I was greeted by a group of women early in the morning; we sat on the dock overlooking the beautiful bay. The girls made me feel welcome and like I was home. Ever since, anytime I have stepped into Hannah’s House, I have been overwhelmed with the spirit of God, and it will always be home to me. I have never worked so hard in my life.
After my first Big Book study, I walked out terrified! Those Big Book studies ended up being my favorite part of the day. I was given a solution to my addiction that was unlike anything else I had tried. On top of all the Twelve Step work we were doing, I had an amazing therapist who was so patient with me.
The staff at Origins never gave up on me. I am eternally grateful that I am a recovered addict today, and that I have been given the ability to help others. I ended up naming my daughter Hannah because without God placing me at Hannah’s House, I would have never had the beautiful opportunity to be a mother in sobriety.
