Marijuana Addiction
Your pot smoking loved one holds a special place in the hearts of the Origins Recovery Centers’ staff, as marijuana addicts often reach our facility completely unaware of the bleak nature of their situation and unwilling to see the harm their addiction has done to their lives.
We are the first to admit that relative to, say, heroin, Marijuana does not pose the serious physical risk that is present with many other drugs. It is impossible to overdose on Marijuana and the actions of those high on Marijuana are generally in no way reckless or violent, as is the case with alcohol.
Herein lies the tragedy, however. The non-lethal nature of the drug has led to Marijuana gaining an undeserved reputation as being a relatively safe lifestyle choice and Marijuana addiction is somewhat tacitly approved by society. The “oh, he’s just a pot head” sort of indifference towards Marijuana addicts provides for others to just ignore their addiction and allow them languish in a sad, sedentary and ineffectual life that is solely concerned with continuing to get stoned
We are very clear that we see this aspect of Marijuana addiction to be highly tragic. Drugs like cocaine and heroin will work to effectively destroy the lives of their victims so that they swiftly reach bottom and are faced with the choice of recovery or death, whereas the subtlety of Marijuana addiction will often lead to a person quietly wasting the entirety of their life without ever reaching anything close to their innate potential.
Does your loved one believe that their Marijuana addiction is not a problem because they have been able to achieve a number of things in spite of their use of Marijuana? This is quite common and perhaps this has left you questioning whether or not they really need professional help. In response, we will ask you the following question: If your loved one has been able to perform on a reasonable level so far, can you imagine how wonderful their future could be if they were able to live a life unencumbered by Marijuana addiction?
Also, it is important for us to note that is actually quite rare for a Marijuana addict to remain just smoking Marijuana. Quite often, they will begin dabbling with psychedelics as well, and then will progress to trying “harder” drugs which of course pose a much greater physical risk to users.
Are you watching a loved one waste away behind Marijuana addiction? We understand your feelings of sadness and helplessness. We will provide your loved one with the tools needed to recover from their addiction to Marijuana and live a happy and abundant life without it.
