Crack Addiction

Crack Addiction

We at Origins Recovery Centers will welcome your crack smoking loved one with wide open arms and embrace them within a healing environment, free of judgment, and full of love as we are very experienced in treating the crack addict. Crack cocaine addiction is one of the most intense drug addictions we are aware of and we believe it is nearly impossible to conquer it without professional help.

Crack or “Rock” cocaine has all of the problems associated with traditional, powder cocaine, however the process of making crack cocaine provides for an even more efficient delivery system for the drug to the addict that intensifies the overall experience of Cocaine. In other words, Crack has managed to make a horribly addictive chemical even much more addictive.

Crack cocaine takes an absolutely and utterly horrible toll on your loved one’s body. The central nervous system – primarily the heart – is greatly stressed with the use of cocaine, so that heart attacks and strokes due to prolonged crack cocaine use are rather common. Furthermore, the mental side effects of the drug are also quite severe and most crack cocaine addicts experience a great degree of paranoid delusion, hallucinations and overall diminished mental capacity.

Just like with powder cocaine and other stimulants, Crack cocaine is not technically physically addictive, in that discontinuing it after prolonged used will not create physical withdrawal symptoms in crack addicts. It is for this reason why Crack addiction can be so dubious, since this lack of obvious physical dependence can allow the crack addict to retain the delusion that they still have control of their addiction. As you know, this is of course not the case.

Now for what crack cocaine lacks in physical withdrawal symptoms, it more than makes up for in utterly terrifying psychological withdrawal. A crack addict separated from their drug will obsess about its use unlike really any other obsession known to us, which is why untreated crack addicts almost always seem to return to using crack.

They often say that they can stop anytime that they want, and in fact they may even still believe this. But truly, if they could stop, why haven’t they already?

The fact remains that a distinct feature of crack addiction is what we call a “mental obsession” which will almost always defeat your loved one in their pursuit of sobriety without professional help. They will learn about this and more related to their crack addiction in their time spent within our therapeutic community.
